Just google a little bit; I do remember some comments about running the slug 
on batteries. 
While testing around I found that it even worked with 4.6V. What I do not know 
is weather it  burns with more than 5.2V.

Maybe the small Power Converters work for the slug maybe in combination with a 
LiPo battery. I'll post more as soon as I have tested them:

You might also google for an "external Battery Pack" for any 5V devices. 
MP3 Players, PSP, Zaurus, Digital Wallet, ...
