Er, accept the RFC where it's defined says "no username or password is 
allowed for HTTP" RFC 1738

RFC 2396 notes it, doesn't mention HTTP, but does say it's "NOT RECOMMENDED" 
and 3986 specifically deprecates it.  IE is certainly doing nothing wrong 
here.

And who uses IE - the majority of people...
