You *can* define highway keys in the applet but you have to manually
type in both the key and the value in the second tab of the popup
window.  It would be nice to get this changed since teh class tag is
rapidly becoming unfashionable, but the applet is unfortunately
leading people down the wrong path.

If you do want to see ways and segments that are tagged with the class
attributes then you can do this just by adding appropriate rules to
the rule file.  That is why Osmarender is driven by a rules file.
