[OSM-talk] Flash editor

Hello all,

A brief update, for those who are interested, on how I'm doing with
the Flash editor (codenamed Potlatch).

Most of the drawing functions are complete. You can draw ways, extend
existing ways, add nodes into ways, move or delete them.

There is basic key/value editing for both ways and nodes. The base map
is a 'slippy' Landsat map which can be turned off as required.

Still to do are key/value presets, some UI work, and a few additional
drawing functions (in particular, joining/splitting ways).

Target platform is Flash Player 6, which means it can both be compiled
and run with open source tools (ming.sourceforge.net and
www.gnu.org/software/gnash/ respectively). If you have installed a
local OSM server, the only dependency will be Ming 0.3 (and a SWF
player). The code - mostly ActionScript, currently with some bits of
Perl and PHP that should be eventually migrated to Ruby - will be
released as public domain.

There is an outline roadmap for future releases, with planned features
including GPS track import and simplification, and support for the New
Popular Edition and other base maps.

First release is probably a few weeks off, certainly this calendar
year. I don't anticipate it will attract anyone from JOSM, but as a
first step into OSM editing it should hopefully lower the entry barrier.

cheers
Richard
