"A footbridge across a stream would probably be a node (not big enough to be
a
segment)"

I don't understand how anything that isnt a name can be a node. A node is a
dot, that is techincally not there as it has an infinatly small diameter.
Any footbridge has a legth, nomatter how short.

How I am doing footbridge is just to make the bridge a way. It is a pain
making them a seperate ways, but then I'm finding this on everything, as
next to no neigbouring 2 feet of ground share the exact same propeties/tags.

I also have 2 differnt tags for footbridge and bridge...

I was thinking of doing it so that i just have 'bridge', but that is
addtional to the highway type. So it woudl be highway=Motorway then
Motoway=bridge, or Motorway=tunnel, or unclassified=gate for example.

This way allows styles/cattlegrids/bridges/tunnels/ufos/anything, that is on
the route to be added. track=footway, footway=style for example.

I think this would work, as you never get 2 phisical objects in the same
space.

Ben
