[OSM-talk] Running my own slippy map

Ahoy,

I'm toying with the idea of running a "live", editable map based on OSM data
rather than just providing PNGs and PDFs. I'd like to do this for my maps of
ethical places in Reading:
http://cf.acrewoods.net/ethical_map

I've found this page, which has a barebones description, linking to a lot of
heavy-looking supplementary pages:
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/index.php/HOWTO_creating_an_OpenLayers_powered_OSM

Is it going to take me days, and GBs of disk space on my VM, to get a
OpenLayers implementation running with a dump of data for Reading?

Then, is there any way I can let people add data to the map (note: probably to
a local DB rather than to OSM)?

Advice would be appreciated :)

Regards,
Tom
