Right now on Swedish public radio, they're talking about a new PhD
dissertation about place names. This dissertation concentrates
only on nature names (islands, bays, etc., not homesteads,
villages or parishes) in a single historic district "Tanums härad"
north of Gothenburg. That seems like a narrow category, but the
dissertation covers 6000 names, their meaning and history.

According to Wikipedia, the province Bohuslän (4473 sq.km, 270,628
inhabitants) was historically divided into 17 such districts (the
English term is "hundred", in German "Harde"), so their sizes
roughly correspond to today's municipalities, of which there are
290 in Sweden.
