I would be happy to be involved as I have the cartography background that might prove useful. I "might" even be able to swing it as staff development activity from work to get time off and possibly funding to pay for registration and travel to attend. OSM can certainly be a player in the data field, which is why I am always saying that the project needs to reach out for credibility. Such things as being able to have a complete tagged motorway (and then primary road) network available as selectable data would be so useful (as mentioned on IRC last night). Also the idea of data filters and export via shapefile/dxf/Illustrator formats as discussed after SoC conf last week is important too. I should point out the BCS organisation behind this day to be hosted at OS is a different BCS to that which Andy/Blackadder spoke to last week. This one is the British Computer Society and Andy's was the British Cartographic Society. Also that if I went I would have to be there in a personal capacity and not be wearing my Chair of Society of Cartographers hat, as I probably shouldnn't be seen to be part of/supporting such a "radical" movement as OSM! That is my problem though.

Lets hope it works out Nick. Your participation would be great. I'm very tempted to make the effort myself. I would see this as one of the key event types for OSM to target. We would be preaching to the yet-to-be-converted which has to be an ideal scenario.

We could do with as many OSM big guns as possible, ie those that aren't afraid to stand up and argue the finer points of data, licensing and politics all in the same breath ;-)

This is clearly an event for those delivering data to encourage those that build on top of it to do a lot more. We are a player in that delivery market and we need to stir the hornets nest a little more aggressively with these folks than we do right now.

Cheers

Andy
