Additions:

Go out for mapping sprees of around two hours and tell everyone to meet up 
back at base at a specified time. The number of two hour sprees you fit into 
the day will depend on peoples' keenness.

Probably best to head to a pub or cafe for lunch where you can swap stories 
and relax.

Try to have someone at base camp all the time to let people back in. Make sure 
everyone knows a contact phone number to call in case anyone has troubles and 
needs help. Tyre punctures, getting squashed by cars, getting lost, running 
out of petrol etc.
