Right, several hours of research later I came up with the following,
Dane Elec SD cards claim they are compatible with the voltage range
2.0-3.6V (and also SDLV which is 1.6-3.6V) which I found here

I've also looked up Toshiba mini-SD cards which also claim to support
2.7V these are supplied with an adaptor that converts them to full size
SD, so I've ordered one of each type of card with a capacity of 512MB 
which will hopefully be with me tomorrow. I'll let you all know how I
get on.
