That headline is just awful, and you can see from the comments many have 
tried to click expecting some open source Google map killer and saw, 
well, the OpenStreetMap front page. I buried some of the more 
inflammatory comments and gave a boost to the more insightful ones :)

I'm a fairly new contributor, but I had a crack at writing a comment 
which I think set out why the comparison with Google Maps isn't
