It is still possible to register for the Society of Cartographers
conference at the University of Portsmouth from 3-6 Sept. As well as
formal presentations (eg):

Map design for GIS users - Dr Kenneth Field, School of Earth Sciences
and Geography, Kingston University
Data Sharing in a Mashed-up World - Graham Vowles, Principal Consultant,
Ordnance Survey

there are a series of workshops on such topics as Google Earth,
Pictometry, LIDAR, Sketchup, and Illustrator. Full details at:
http://www.port.ac.uk/special/soc/

As part of the conference there is a half day mapping party in
Portsmouth itself. This is open to any OSMers who can get there, and we
would be pleased to see anyone who can make it. It will be run by myself
and Nick Whitelegg, and preliminary details are on the wiki at:
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/index.php/Portsmouth_mapping_party
and through the calendar.

Hope to see some of you at the conference and/or the mapping party.
PS: I will be doing a 10 minute presentation on varied uses of OSM data,
and Artem and NickB are speaking, and there is a presentation on the
People's Map in the same session. Shouldbe interesting!

Cheers
STEVE
