Hello all,
I beg your indulgence in posting something UK-only which is a bit
spammy. Please bear with me.
A lot of OSMers have enjoyed mapping the National Cycle Network:
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/index.php/
WikiProject_United_Kingdom_National_Cycle_Network
and, of course, it inspired Andy A's superlative cycle map.
The charity behind it, Sustrans, is bidding for £50m of lottery money
for their Connect2 scheme. This will be used to build 79 new bridges,
tunnels and the like for cyclists and walkers, so that people can get
around more easily without driving.
There are four projects bidding for the money, and the winner is to
be chosen by popular vote. So if you don't feel you've typed
"bridge=yes" enough recently:
- vote by phone: 0870 24 24 602 (no, it's not premium rate!)
- vote online: http://www.peoples50million.org.uk/
- more info: http://www.sustransconnect2.org.uk/
Since they're tracking votes by IP address and phone number, you can
vote five times (home phone, work phone, mobile, home Internet, work
Internet). And, of course, tell your friends. Voting closes at noon
on Monday.
Thanks for bearing with me, I shall now go and do some Potlatch work
in penitence. :) (And I've recruited at least one new OSMer through
discussing Connect2 on a cycling forum!)
cheers
Richard
