[OSM-talk] duplicate, clashing rendering of names

i'm having problems when dual-carriageway roads are rendered - each
carriageway gets the name next to it, but the two sides are virtually
on top of each other. is there anything that can be done to stop this,
or is it waiting for someone to come up with an intelligent plugin for
the renderers that places names in a nice way?
