I should probably point out that tiles at home cannot render in real
time. To make that work you have to prerender the entire area you 're
interested in. It takes long enough that using only one or two
machines you're going to be running a *long* time before getting any
sizable area. Hence the @home bit. That's also why there's no way to
integrate it into tilecache or run it from WMS.

Mapnik can render on the fly, so if you only want to cache stuff then
it's the only option.
