ncn = national cycle network
rcn = regional cycle network
lcn = local cycle network

That's not UK-specific: it's specific to a country with up to three
tiers of cycle networks. Dutch mappers appear to be using the same
tags happily (http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/index.php/Nl:Fietsroutes).
It will also work in Denmark (http://tinyurl.com/33ld7u) - indeed, the
UK system was actually based on the Danish one; in Lithuania
(http://tinyurl.com/2nrafw); and so on.

It won't work in countries without a signposted cycle route system,
but then, given that it's a set of tags for a signposted cycle route
system, that's probably to be expected. ;)

The reason why the gravitystorm cycle map has more UK data than
anywhere else is because there's a co-ordinated (and deeply enjoyable)
effort among UK mappers to map our own cycle routes. Nothing more,
nothing less. It'd be great if cycling OSMers in other countries with
cycle networks did the same.

cheers
Richard
