the point is not which is better. the point is that having the
discussion on the wiki keeps all the points in one place. e-mail lists
are great if the discussion all takes place in a short space of time.
there are lots of mails on this list, and people do not go back
through the archives (and even if they did, can you imagine trying to
search for the discussion on say, highway; the noise-to-signal ratio
would be huge?) to see what has been said months previously - some of
the proposals on the wiki have been hanging around for a year, most
for at least a couple of months.
