Wasn't there some issue that the shapes needed to be sliced up into a square
grid, or are Kleptog's already sliced?

Also as well as updating shapefile_a for the solid shapes, I think
shoreline_1 needs to be edited to remove the blue outline line for the area
where solid shapes are available.

In November 2007 I provided Jon Burgess with a revised shapefile_a which
merged the original shapefile_a with shapes for the Hawaiian Islands, and
this revised shapefile has been in use for some while. However if you look
at
 http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=21.3211&lon=-157.887&zoom=14&layers=B0F
you will note the blue border which really needs to be removed for the area.

Because each of the Hawaiian islands was relatively small I did not see the
need to split the new shapes into a square grid. Also I didn't really have
the tools to edit shoreline_1 which is I believe approx 600Mb shapefile.

I didn't really progress much more with this, as it was about this time that
the coastline error checker come on line, and I thought it more beneficial
to spend my time getting valid shoreline data into the OSM database.
