[OSM-talk] Newbie - Streets not showing up

Hello All,
I had thought that I could figure out most programs,
particularly after reading documentation but something
just escapes me on OSM.  

I have loaded my gpx data into JOSM, added nodes,
connected them with segments. Converted the segments
into a way and attached a property (Highway: track). 
However, I don't see anything when using the OSMRANDER
plugin in JOSM.  Trying to upload it I get "unknown
host: www.openstreetmap.org".   

Can anyone please give me a gentle push in the correct
direction or location in the doc?
