[OSM-talk] Multilingual wiki

Hello,

I find the current wiki translation method a little inefficient: add a
template {{Language Links}} to the page, that in turn shows some
_fixed_ link languages at the top of the page (with the info text in
English): "Read this page in English, Dansk, Deutsch, Français,
Italiano, Japanese or Svenska". If a new language is added to the
template, then the link appears in all pages containing the template,
whether it is translated or not. Also, if too many languages are
added, the list may be appear too cumbersome.

Wikipedia has, IMHO, a better multilingual scheme, with as many
[[lang:text]] links in the source page as translations of the page,
and the same number of links to those translations on the left column,
as specified by
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Interlanguage_links

I don't know mediawiki internals, so don't know the technical
implications, but could it be implemented here?.

Cheers,
Quico
