[OSM-talk] Freemap news: Geograph photos and contour heights

Hello everyone,

Here's the latest news on Freemap: thanks to code contributed by Artem,
contours on Freemap now show heights.

The other news is a linkup with the Geograph project. As you move the map
around on Freemap, camera icons will appear. Click on the icon and it will
show the Geograph photo at that location. This is part of where I see Freemap
headed: a general free data source for countryside users. As discussed last
week, later developments will include the ability for users to contribute
walk routes.

There are one or two issues with the Geograph linkup: sometimes the photo text
does not fit into the popup. I'm not sure how to resolve this problem but
I've asked on the OpenLayers site. I've tried setting the style of the <div>
to 'overflow:auto' but no luck.

Finally, West Cheshire (Chester area) is included as well as central southern
England. Whilst in development, Freemap will focus on these two well-mapped
areas.

Next thing I want to do is sort out how tile rendering will be handled. One
option is to generate the tiles off planet on dev and cache them for say a
month, another is a tiles at home type approach.

Nick
