I would tag the pitch as sport=cricket, or if its used for other things then 
landuse=recreational_ground. (leisure=pitch, or landuse=field* may also 
work) They are all standard tags. That is a very similer example to that of 
a village near me called badby.  The green and the cricket pitch are 
seperate though and there not really the same thing.  Tag how you wish 
though.  My concern is just that a village green is not always as clear and 
as definate as seems to be being suggested, and seeing as that all I map is 
villages pretty much, I have seen quite a few of them.

* I always asumed a field was...well a field, but after looking round the 
other day trying to find what people had been using to render recreational 
grounds I found that it was "landuse=field"
