[OSM-talk] Several approved features moved to Map_features page

"even if most village greens are commons."
Actually, ALL village greens are commons. That's part of the definition
of a village green.

Village greens are a _subset_ of commons. I agree, most people could
identify a village green - it's the common land in the middle of a
village. Except that's not true - it doesn't have to be in the middle of
a village, and indeed, is sometimes far from the centre of a village,
particularly if the village has gradually moved over the past millenium
(not an uncommon situation)
In which case, you'll be defining an area of (usually) grassy common
land somewhere NOT necessarily in the middle of a village (perhaps even
outside) as 'village-green' when the perfectly good tag 'common' exists
to describe that situation.

I'm just surprised that this was approved as a map feature, given that
it is essentially redundant.

Any chance of having a re-vote?

Phillip

I think there are many commons which aren't village greens (e.g.
Stourbridge Common in Cambridge), even if most village greens are
commons.

I think most people in England would be able to point at an area of land
and identify it as a village green, don't you?

David

BTW, the village_green tag suggestion didn't come from me, I was just
updating the tables to reflect the vote. I still think it is a good one
to have though.
