[OSM-talk] UK OSM Map

Yes, I've run into that recently. Unfortunately, there'sd no error
message, it just sits there forever saying 'Contacting the server' or
whatever. Most frustrating, particularly as you know you're asking for a
lot of data you may well expect it to take a while. It would be more
helpful to error politely.

Code was recently added that prevents people downloading too much in one
go because the server couldn't cope with the load that created.

It would have to be a lot of smaller requests.

That is definitely the right approach. I think there may be a script
somewhere in http://svn.openstreetmap.org/utils that does it for you,
but I don't know where.
