There have been severe performance problems on dev for most of the
past week. Yesterday the system became almost totally unusable.
Nick has identified that the system was I/O bound and concluded that
defragmenting the tiles at home mysql database would probably make a big
difference.
The database was taken offline yesterday evening and copied to a
second bigger machine where there was space to perform the
defragmentation. The second machine subsequently failed for some
unknown reason.
Nick reinstated the original mysql database but this started reporting
errors. He is currently (11:02am GMT) running myisamchk in an
attempt to resolve errors.
