Osmeditor2 tries to do it all for you, but I found that really confusing. I quite like the current system in JOSM, though perhaps you could toggle "connect nodes with segments as I go" for those times when you're just drawing lots of little roads.

Would it be possible to run a "clean up bad data" tool on the server to do this, rather like the spellchecker? It couldn't be too difficult to look at each way and re-order the segments so they face in the right direction and are in sequence... he says as he offers 0mins of his pathetic programming skills to help =) That would be *much* better than us manually cleaning up all of the bad ways on the system. It's enough work already fixing areas I come across whilst entering my own data in a small area!
