[OSM-talk] Maplint

I have just uploaded the Maplint program to subversion. This collection
of XSL stylesheets and scripts checks for common OSM data problems such as
multiple segments on the same nodes or residential roads without names.
It generates reports (and, together with Osmarender, maps) showing those
problems.
I think of this as a generic tool to check for all sorts of problems. It
will not fix problems for you. In fact, many problems can't be fixed
automatically but need a human to do that. And some problems are not
really problems at all, but it needs a human to check that, yes, in this
special case, the data is right, although it might look unusual to a
program. It is a tool to help you improve OSM data quality, it is not
meant as an absolute measure of correctness. Keeping that in mind, it
can be very helpful to find otherwise hard-to-track errors in the data
which can lead to rendering problems or it can simple help you by
pointing out, which ways might need names or refs added or so.
See the wiki at http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/index.php/Maplint for more
information.
The current collection of tests is just a beginning, please add
proposals for more tests to the Maplint/Tests discussion page and/or send
them to me.
