I proposed that on the wiki a week ago or so, having stumbled across  
the problem with some small coastal islands in Wester Ross. It seemed  
logical to use place=island for that, especially as for some  
inhabited islands the island name is used instead of a village or  
hamlet name.

Someone pointed out on the wiki that the label tag would solve the  
problem just as well. And naming the contour doesn't sound too bad  
either. I really don't know what is best, I just used place=village  
because it is very similar to mechanisms already used.
