Following on from my post on countryside mapping events this year, I'd
like to start the ball rolling for one possible event: the Lake District
Mapping Week. The idea of this week will be to try and map a significant
amount of one of the most popular walking areas in England, an event which
could generate significant interest from UK walkers.

I've suggested two possible weeks: June 17-23 or July 22-28. The earlier
one has the advantages of not being peak holiday season (less
busy/cheaper?) but the later one is perhaps more likely to coincide with
work holidays. That said, the aim is to run weekend-weekend so if people
are unable to take time off work they could come one or both weekends.
One question relates to accommodation. One option would be for me to rent
a cottage as per the IoW, but I'd need to be sure quite a few people were
coming to avoid being landed with a huge bill :-) The other option would
be for people to make their own arrangements for accommodation - would
people be happy with that? Likely base is the Langdale/Grasmere area (easy
access to both high/low level stuff)
