I couldn't attend SOTM but I do have one request with respect to the
node tagging:
Can you use a more general term than "pillar" because that seems to
apply to western europe only.

I'm trying to get a list of german "nodal points" without database
rights constraints. Those are seldomly in the form of a pillar. (in fact
I have seen no pillars in .de or .at, but different forms of marking the
point in question. (mostly involving some brass "nail" in some sort of
stone foundation or a cross mark chiseled into the surface of the rock)

You might also want to register wether the vertex is just for either
positional or height reference, or both.
