welcome to the club. You'll need several perl modules. Either find the 
packages for your distro containing them, or use CPAN to get them. 
Disadvantage of the later method: It bypasses the packaging system of 
your distro.

BTW: The next version of mkgmap was announced to include different 
detail levels at various zoom levels. I'm impatiently :) waiting for 
this feature. Any news?
