I'm really interested in the user-oriented side of the site at the
moment, and am keen to help improve it to make it more obvious to
users and easier to use.

I started a wiki page at
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/index.php/My_Account/Improvements for
improvements. I haven't looked much into the messaging aspect as of
yet, but it's a really useful thing to have, and very important in a
community project I think.

If you - or anyone - have any ideas for improvements, please edit the wiki page

Cheers,
Dan
