Some current Proposed Features seem to be stuck because they have a wide
impact on the Model or the tools, a quick review of the Proposed Features
page will show up which ones are currently 'stuck'. There may be a strong
desire to have the issue resolved, but it isn't happening.
I propose that 'Low Impact changes' continue to be dealt using the current
process, for example the request to add the feature 'Bollard' or 'Passing
Place'.
However 'high impact changes' may involve significant work on tools (JOSM,
MapNik OSMaRender etc) or on the data model itself or may have other
strategic implications for the project and require a much more thorough
process.
So, how about the following.
On a semi-annual basis (no more that twice a year and on a published date?)
we review the outstanding wish/issue list for those ones which are important
but which are 'stuck' because for structural reasons. We can then decide
which ones it is possible / sensible to tackle in the coming period.
A work-group is the formed to work up a proposal and detail the required
changes to the tools/renders etc and put this out for approval.
Needless to say the buy-in for any proposed work program would need to be
very high prior to implementation.
Any thoughts?
Peter
