I find these also very unhelpful. Most of the time, I don't know whether
segments are supposed to be roads, rivers, or the cycleway next to them.
etc. So, I find myself deleting them and redoing the lot with my data.
Especially for crowded areas I also never know if a person just wants to
puts segments all over the place, or actually intends to create ways for
these as well. In the latter case, I would hesitate to modify that area
at all, as long as others are active in that, but I never really know.
So, yes, putting segments somewhere, is not the best way to help the
project from my POV as well.
