This is true, but I don't have a good idea how to fix it.
JOSM does not know your "screen name", it only knows your login name
(usually your email address). They can be different (in my case the
"screen name" is "woodpeck", and the login name used with JOSM is my
email address).
When things are downloaded from the server, the user name is specified
as the login name.
So JOSM has no way of knowing what name to put when you create or change
something. (JOSM doesn't upload a name to the API either - the API
derives the screen name from the login name and stores the former.)
Possible solutions:
* Have a JOSM preferences option "OSM screen name", and credit newly
created objects to this.
* Credit newly created objects with a pseudo-user "current session" or
so. (However this would also be in a saved file!)
* ... ?
