A quick report back from Glastonbury. We took OpenStreetMap to Glastonbury
as part of a 'Transport Action' venue on the Green Fields and shared a venue
with a bunch of other transport activist groups which worked out very well.
We made some useful contacts, including some of the GIS team at Sustrans
(who build and maintain the UK national cycle network) and a number of other
organisation with shared interests including the Wildlife Trust, 'green
maps' and the CTC (Cycle Touring Club). I will be following these up over
the next few weeks, and I hope we can get them promoting OSM through their
membership and use OSM internally.
What about the mud? The mud was great, sometimes it rains at the start of
Glastonbury and then starts to dry out and the mud gets like glue and you
can't move at all! This time we had lubrication provided daily which kept
everything moving! Sure, we had some standing water in the venue at the end
that seeped in under the bottom but the structure, but it remained sound and
leak-proof and everyone had a good time.
