seconded and thirded. If we need some money to keep the project up and 
running, I'd prefer to first search for other methods.

If the majority of the OSM community agrees on ads, then it should at 
least be kept out of the maps itself. It not only defaces and 
devaluates the map, but also shows tactlessness.

The first time I will see an ad overlayed to data I personally mapped, 
I'll consider to delete all of the data I contributed and to quit my 
membership. I didn't collect and map over 1 000 000 trackpoints just to 
get my name disgraced.

Sorry for the harsh words, but I really feel pissed off.
