Well, this is a classical application that calls for the use of
Kerberos tickets, where the Kerberos server grants a ticket to the
client for authorization at the OSM backend who then submits the ticket
to the 'middleman' for accessing the OSM database,

 Unix _IS_ user friendly - it's just selective about who its friends are !
