That would be good.
It would also be very handy if people could insert new nodes for places. You click on the point, select the type of node from a categorised list, enter the name, web site and other relevant info, and submit. I can see a lot of people being happy to add things like post boxes, night clubs, ATMs, post codes (like the NPE site) etc. but being a bit put off by Potlach (lovely as it is). Rather than having to search for the exact item (as you suggest) it would also mean you could browse the map, select existing items and edit their tags.
