Hi List!

I've tried to summarize the current discussion on 
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/index.php/Proposed_features/Airports page.

On the discussion page, someone also mentioned aeroway=airfield - see below.

The "proposed aerodrome (unified symbol set)" page 
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/index.php/Proposed_features/Aerodrome_%28unified_symbol_set%29 
proposes to use another class tag in addition to aeroway, e.g. 
class=airfield and alike. I'm a bit against this, as this adds another 
tag without real advantage? However, the icons on this page are real fine.


So looking at all the pages about airports and alike that currently 
exist, I would suggest:

aeroway=airport - large international airport
aeroway=aerodrome - smaller airport or part of an airport
aeroway=airfield - minor airfield
aeroway=gliding - gliding centre
aeroway=helipad - helicopter pad (already accepted)
aeroway=floatplane - floatplane centre (aerodrome page also mentions 
seaplane, but what's the difference?)

The surface of the taxiway / runway (grass/concrete/...) should not be 
part of the aeroway tag (so no aeroway=grass_airfield)  IMHO.

I'm a bit unsure about the destinction between aerodrome and airfield - 
is there some description that could be added?
