[OSM-talk] Coastline disruptions

When importing coastlines, I have tried to cleverly design my 
bounding boxes, so that their boundaries cut through a minimum 
number of islands.  However, the coastline data itself seem to 
have gaps, for example at 18° E and at 60° N.  Does anybody know 
if these gaps are part of a global or systematic partitioning?
