[OSM-talk] Shared ways and Potlach

Hi,
 
I have troubles in editing features which have shared ways with Potlach.
For example, parks which are reusing the streets around them, or some
inland landuse areas reusing the coastline.  Sometimes I feel it is just
impossible to select the underlying object.  Sometimes it seems to be
possible by dragging slightly some node, which edits only the upper
feature and reveals the underlying one so it gets selectable.  All the
time I am a bit unsure about what really happens.
Is there any simple way to see and select features which are covered by
other features?  Is it a good habit at all to reuse ways, or would it be
better to make own ways for every feature?
