I like this proposal, but as one side has difficulties recognizing the
existence of other side this might be problematic.

How about whoever tags a place first gets to keep their name in first
place, others can add it after the first name, separating the two with
a slash. This is similar to no deletion or changing, just adding
stuff, summarized in motto: "Show respect to what others have created
and they will show respect for your work".

As a side effect this might also speed up mapping considerably, with
some advantage given to the local people :)

Other neutral alternative might be alphabetical order, but not all
alphabets have same ordering (not sure about greek and turkish ones).

Ehm, why are greek place names written in latin characters instead of
greek/cyrillic ones here? UTF-8 should handle all nicely, and on
rendered maps it would be visually clear which name is which even to
tourists in the area. I have seen mostly greek letters being used on
traffic signs in Greece, but can't confirm this for Cyprus.
