Hi,
some months ago I started a wiki page that was aimed at software
developers joining the project - giving them a quick overview where
we stand and where we could really use some help, every task nicely
structured in "what do we need", "what skills are required", "how
would one start", "whom would one ask", etc.
My idea was to have us community members add their "me too" to those
tasks deemed important so taht anyone looking at the list would see
where he or she would really earn a favour with the community.
I abandoned the "project" because I was frustrated that we didn't
have ParserFunctions in or Wiki, and despite aking people personally,
asking on the mailing list, and writing Trac tickets and pointing out
that everyone has ParserFunctions, we didn't get them.
(ParserFunctions is a MediaWiki plugin that allows you better control
of parametrized templates, e.g. my ToDoTask template had a parameter
named "takers" and I would have liked it to create a red(dish) bar
with "no takers yet" if that parameter was unset etc.)
But it's not that the whole thing is not feasible because of the lack
of ParserFunctions, it's just that it didn't work the way I wanted it
and so I turned my attention elsewhere. Meanwhile we even have
ParserFunctions, a big thank you to whoever did that! I had, all the
time, left the "work in progress" template at the top of the page,
but meanwhile someone has removed it with the dry but accurate
comment "page hasn't been modified in months".
So we might as well try and make something of the page. Feel free to
have a look:
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/index.php/Things_To_Do
and add things that you find important.
Keep in mind that the page is aimed at people with programming
experience, but who do not necessarily know a lot about OSM.
Note that adding things is done by opening a new
{{Template:ToDoTask}} section.
Bye
Frederik
