Yeah I would also loathe having to *update* 1000 objects just to say
"they have not changed" - strikes me as almost Pratchettesque. I've
long been toying with the idea of introducing "metadata" (the long
discussed "here be dragons" stuff but also "sticky note" type of
information that may cover just a street, or a quarter, or a whole
village, town, or half a country, and could easily be filtered,
displayed, amended, and searched for. I just dont know how to do that
best; probably one would have to use an extra "meta database" for
that, where editors can request any meta info for an area they're
currently working on. I was thinking to have something emulating a few
bold strokes on a paper map (as opposed to selecting the exact 1000
objects my comment applies to), but somehow integrate that in the
editors we're using...
