Gabriel has done some work on implementing the long discussed  
"modelessness" yesterday, so if anyone cares to try the josm- 
latest.jar they will find that it works a bit differently now. Don't  
know if this is the last word on the issue (delete "mode" versus  
"command" might still need some work, and there will surely be a  
number of subleties to sort out) but I think it looks very promising!
