I really hate the way that the delete button is both a mode and an
action. If I want to go into delete mode and delete some stuff, I often
accidentally leave something selected, and it's gone. Or sometimes, I
select something deliberately to delete it, press the button, then
forget to change modes before trying to select the next thing, and that
gets wrongly deleted instead. Thankfully the undo feature works well.
The delete button should do one or other thing, not both. Personally, I
think modality should be reduced as much as possible. I'd advocate
selecting something with select, then pressing the delete button to
delete it.
