I am not opposed to GIT (never having used it). But why can't we use SVN branching for this stuff (a Win32 branch etc).
IMHO SVN is a simple way to avoid a discussion with no solution (I'd opt for Mercurial, if you want to go distributed, others prefer monotone, bazaar, arch,...).
