This would have been me :-). /me waves. I installed an instance of "phorum" a web forum which can integrate with e-mail lists and got it somewhat working (keeping threading intact proved to be impossible until now). If now mailing list integration is needed, that would simplify things (we could at least forward all postings on the forum to the newbie mailing list if needed.

It could use the API authentication mechanism, but the user would still have to be created manually. I can't auto-create the user, because the API doesn't give out the user his own e-mail address in the user/detail API (after he logged himself in with his password).  I don't have any access to the users e-mail address which is required for the forum software. 
SteveC wasn't very willing to accept a change that would users give their own e-mail address, so I seem to have to live with that.

I wouldn't want to be any forum administrator, but I would be happy to work with anybody, helping him to integrate API authenication into a web forum.
