Well, Frollo at least, is going away in 0.5. So we have one less step to
perform. The UTF-8 check could also, theoretically, go away as the
server realiably sends UTF-8 now (although that step doesn't seem to
take long).

I agree, let's look into this post 0.5. That is going to take enough
tweaking already, I'd say.
